ORGANIC AND VEGAN

OUR MISSION

For Losito e Guarini Organic and Vegan wines represent the new goal in the journey undertook many years ago for what concerns productions that are attentive towards ethical and healthful aspects. It is important to marry a philosophy of management and production that respects the environment and that makes sure to satisfy the necessities of those consumers who, when choosing a product, pay close attention to content guarantees and wine production methods. Moreover, we try to make sure that wine on the table represents a form of pleasure also for those people who suffer from specific health issues.

Since many years we have adopted an “allergen free” management policy for what concerns allergens and food intolerances. We have therefor eliminated many allergens, such as: Eggs and eggs based products, including egg lysozyme; fish and fish based products; soy and soy based products; milk and milk based products.

The Vegan and Organic choice and ethics are not simply a trend but represent many positive health improvements.

Why Organic?

Starting from 2007 the EU made the use of the common organic symbol (the green flag with a leaf made out of the European stars) compulsory for all those products, produced within the territory on the Union, that contain at least 95% organic ingredients. Next to the symbol the producer has to specify the code of the Control Body and the actual origin (EU / non EU) of the ingredients used for the product.

The organic norms set very specific rules for the preparation of vegetal and animal products, aimed at reducing the use of additives, aromas and other non-organic ingredients with mainly sensory and technological functions. The goal is to obtain a product that is higher in quality but has a lower impact on the environment. For the production of wine only the use of sulphite is allowed and it’s always prohibited the use of substances deriving or obtained from GMO’s, also for the few conventional allowed ingredients. Organic productions have to happened granting processing that are separate in time (thanks to dedicates lines) or space. If the latter, the line has to be properly cleaned before the organic production can start. The recordings have to allow a correct identification and reporting of entry and exit workflows of raw materials and finished products.

The certification process is made up of 5 main phases:
Notification of an production with the organic method to the competent authority;
Initial evaluation of the products and production process;
Inspective audit at the beginning of the production aimed at ascertaining the correct application and effectiveness of the methods declared in the management plan and other associated documents:
Emission of the “Supporting Document” and “Conformity Certificate” based on the information and data collected during the process of evaluation and verification;
Yearly controls with recurring inspections and analysis planned on a careful review of the risks and aimed at confirming the maintenance of the conformity conditions and the punctual and correct safekeeping of the necessary registrations for said controls.

WHY ORGANIC?

Innovation is a key asset of our winery, this is why every day we try to adapt to new market trends and constantly experiment through the creation of new products. This project has the goal of bringing on the consumers’ tables traditional wines but under a new light: Vegan. Many people have the wrong assumption that this kind of wine is not real wine. On the contrary, we need to underline that this is a product obtained through traditional ancient methods, which help preserve the taste, aspect and flavour, and differs only because in its production no animal-based products are used, such as:
Isinglass / Albumin (from eggs or defibrinated ox blood)
Casein or caseinates (from milk) / Lysozyme (from eggs)
Gelatin (from pigskin and / or pig bones and / or bovine bones)
These are replaced by non-animal base products or usually more expensive production techniques, that however allow us to obtain a product that has a similar quality to the traditional one. Indeed this is the only difference: vegan wine is produced, through the whole production line, without impact (be that direct or indirect) on animals. Vegan wine is therefore excellent and can appreciated also by those who are not vegan.
